Rare festive photographs reveal glimpse of Scotland’s rural past

The National Museum of Rural Life has released a group of rare festive photographs from the Scottish Life Archive. The five historic photographs will be available to download for free for the first time, as a set of Christmas cards.

Celebrate the season with festive family fun at the National Museum of Rural Life this December. Visitors will enjoy a programme of activities from winter storytelling to nature-inspired craft activities. The Festive Weekend, which is supported with funds raised by players of People’s Postcode Lottery, takes place on Saturday 7 December and Sunday 8 December.

Escape to the country this autumn for plenty of family fun, come rain or shine at the National Museum of Rural Life in East Kilbride. Supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery, Autumn Explorers will run from 15 – 18 October.

From the farm’s latest arrivals to the ever-popular historic farm house and museum, there’s plenty of family fun to be had this summer come rain or shine at the National Museum of Rural Life in East Kilbride. Free Nature Track Packs will return with exciting ideas and activities to help the whole family enjoy a day exploring the Scottish countryside, thanks to the support of players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

Animal arrivals and family events herald new season at National Museum of Rural Life

The new visitor season at the National Museum of Rural Life in East Kilbride is springing into life with the arrival of new-born lambs, calves and rare-breed piglets. The galleries have been prepared and visitors will have the chance to enjoy special activities and events supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

National Museum of Rural Life introduces udderly fantastic MooFest event

The National Museum of Rural Life in East Kilbride is preparing for a fantastic bovine-themed weekend on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 September when it will host its new, family-friendly MooFest event.

Molly (5) and Adam (8) Cook from Bun-sgoil Beinn Chamshroin (Mount Cameron Primary Gaelic School) meet Lewis the Bull at the National Museum of Rural Life, East Kilbride as they launch the attraction’s new bilingual family trail. Named after Lewis, the trail introduces children to Scottish farming objects and rural traditions and teaches English-speaking visitors some simple Gaelic words.

Visitors to flock to National Museum of Rural Life’s Woolly Weekend

Spinning demonstrations, sheep shearing and the chance to meet some alpacas are some of the woolly treats in store for visitors to the National Museum of Rural Life, East Kilbride on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 May when the attraction hosts its special Woolly Weekend event.

The attraction will be hosting a series of family activities to celebrate the new season including Spring Explorers sessions supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery featuring storytelling, craft activities and a sheep-themed trail.
