National Museums Scotland reveals contemporary whisky collection

National Museums Scotland has revealed a new collection exploring contemporary Scottish whisky. Announced to coincide with World Whisky Day on 21 May 2022, a selection of bottled whiskies, packaging and related material have been acquired to reflect the thriving industry in the 21st century.

A silver casket believed to have been owned by Mary, Queen of Scots has been acquired for the nation. An iconic piece of Scotland’s national heritage, it goes on display at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh from Thursday 19 May.

National Museum of Flight prepares to Dig for Victory

Inspired by its location on an atmospheric Second World War airfield, the National Museum of Flight at East Fortune, East Lothian will host a special Dig for Victory event on Sunday 8 May.

An illustrated prayer book featuring a poem handwritten by the young Mary, Queen of Scots, is to go on display at the National Museum of Scotland from Thursday 31 March.

New season events highlight National Museum of Flight’s airfield heritage

The National Museum of Flight in East Lothian will commence seven-day opening on Friday 1 April for a new season that features a number of special events exploring the East Fortune attraction’s history as a wartime RAF base.

Galloway Hoard yields another exciting discovery, the name of a Bishop Hyguald inscribed on rare rock crystal jar

A rare rock crystal jar found wrapped in textiles as part of the Galloway Hoard has been conserved, revealing a Latin inscription written in gold. The inscription says the jar was made for a bishop named Hyguald.
